Year 11 Paper 1 Baseline Assessment: Learner Response
Mark: 30/34
Grade: 8
Targets: 6
Question 2 (12 mark unseen):
• The reference to “checking eligibility online” might be seen as a
challenge to the stereotype that older people can’t use the internet.
• Clothes look quite expensive, neat and new, suggesting a certain degree
of wealth and success (which might not necessarily be true of all older
people).
• Clothes look slightly old-fashioned and formal, perhaps representing
older people as being out of touch with (or not concerned with) ‘modern’
styles; this is presumably designed to attract the target audience and is
thus not a negative representation.
Question 3 (Galaxy - Propp's Character Theory):
- The Hero (Seeker): The driver
- The Villain: The fruit seller
- The Donor (Provider): The bus driver
- The Princess (Sought-for Person): Audrey Hepburn
Question 5 - Blackpink & Globalisation:
• Blackpink’s success (most successful girl group in the world at the time)
suggests a global impact.
• The success of the video on YouTube (one of the top three music videos
of the year 2020) and the band’s subsequent social media success (they
were the most followed music act in the world) suggests a global
influence.
• Some of the costumes worn by members of Blackpink are heavily
Westernised.
Question 6 - Kiss FM & Money:
• KISS Radio does not appear to have an official store, although several
unofficial online stores selling Kiss merchandise exist, suggesting it may
offer a revenue stream in the future.
• KISS has partnered with Disney+ in the past and more recently with
Costa Coffee.
• KISS runs a range of live annual events, mainly branded as KISStory,
which are promoted on the various Kiss platforms (and likely across
other BMG assets).
